As of September 1st, 2020, the Costa Rica Tourism Board has authorized entry for US residents from Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Vermont, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. On September 15th, Colorado, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania will also be permitted entry. This phased reopening reflects Costa Rica's careful approach to welcoming international travelers while maintaining health and safety protocols. All visitors must present proof of residence, a negative COVID-19 test taken within 48 hours of arrival, a completed health pass form, and valid traveler's medical insurance with minimum coverage of USD $50,000 for pandemic-related medical expenses.
